The News Icon Takes Viewers into America's Heartland, Where Conservationists and Ranchers Are Waging a Heated Battle, and Bison are Caught in the Middle
LOS ANGELES, July 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AXS TV is proud to debut the latest installment of the hit investigative reporting series DAN RATHER PRESENTS, premiering at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, July 22. The conflict centers around a battle for the future of this classic American landscape. On one side of the conflict is a coalition of environmentalists and Native Americans pushing for the restoration of great herds of wild bison, which had been slaughtered to the brink of extinction more than a century ago. On the other side stands the state's powerful cattle interests, families who have worked this land for generations. They argue this is cattle country and no giant buffalo experiment should be allowed to change that.
The environmentalists seek to create one of the largest private wildlife reserves in North America. The Native Americans seek to reconnect with a way of life that died when they were put on reservations. The cattle ranchers seek to protect a frontier legacy that once defined the nation. It is a battle being fought in the courts, the state legislature and in farms and towns across eastern Montana. It is a high-stakes game of prairie poker. 'RANGE WAR' continues Emmy® Award-winning news journalist Dan Rather's commitment to heading to the heart of some of this country's most compelling and underreported stories.
"In his trademark fashion, Rather has crafted yet another groundbreaking documentary that allows viewers exposure to an American conflict," said Michele M. Dix, AXS TV's senior vice president, programming and development. "This is an issue that many Americans may not even be aware of, and AXS TV is proud to be able to bring it to the forefront."
