Rogerebert.com celebrates film critic's birthday with Google+ Hangout
Celebration includes giveaway of tickets to red carpet premieres
CHICAGO, June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate Roger Ebert's birthday Wednesday, his wife, Chaz, with Rogerebert.com editor-in-chief Matthew Zoller Seitz, will host a special Google+ Hangout featuring Steve James, the award-winning director of the documentary "Life Itself," in Los Angeles from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (PST).
The Hangout is open to the public. Special guests will include filmmakers John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, Shaft), Alan Polsky (TheMotel Life, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans), and Anne Thompson of Thompson on Hollywood at Indiewire.com. They will be joined by Ebert Club members, Far Flung Correspondents from other countries, Indiegogo supporters and other guests who will engage in lively discussion about movies, Ebert's life and the upcoming release of the autobiographical film "Life Itself" (Magnolia Pictures), in theaters July 4.
"When Roger talked about movies, he always did it with such joy and enthusiasm," said Chaz, president of Ebert Digital and Rogerebert.com, the movie review and blog site. "Roger was just as excited about the digital media revolution. He was a big supporter and participant in that, and would have loved bringing people together like this in a digital forum."
Participants in the Google+ Hangout will have a chance to win tickets to the film's red carpet premieres in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. To join Wednesday's Hangout go to rogerebert.com/chazs-blog/celebrate-roger-eberts-birthday-with-a-google-hangout-about-life-itself.
Since January, the wife of the beloved film critic and James have been attending special screenings and film festivals around the world to promote "Life Itself," most recently at the Cannes Film Festival. Magnolia Pictures International announced it sold distribution rights to "Life Itself" in key foreign markets, including the UK, Australia, Italy and Canada.
The life-affirming film chronicles Ebert's college years, his 46-year career as film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times and his relationships with Chaz and his "At the Movies" co-host Gene Siskel.
