LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors, wounded veterans and healthcare professionals are expected to attend Abilities Expo on February 28 - March 2, 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Hall A. Admission is free and show hours will be Friday 11 am to 5 pm, Saturday 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.

This year, the annual Los Angeles Abilities Expo will feature an impressive line-up of exhibits, celebrities, workshops, events and activities to appeal to people of all ages with the full spectrum of disabilities--including physical, learning, developmental and sensory disabilities.

"It's not just that we provide a forum that showcases essential technology to bridge the gap between ability and disability," said David Korse, president and CEO of Abilities Expo. "The Expo is always new and exciting with a host of all-inclusive, adaptive activities."

Complimentary loaner scooters, wheelchair repair and a power chair charging station will also be available during show hours.

"The Expo provides the community of people with disabilities access to life-enhancing products, education, resources and fun," said Korse. "Most of all, it's a celebration of what you can do, not what you can't."

The Latest Products and Services
Attendees will experience cutting-edge products and services for people with a wide range of disabilities. They will find mobility products, devices for people with developmental disabilities, medical equipment, home accessories, essential services, low-cost daily living aids, products for people with sensory impairments and much more. The Assistive Technology Showcase will feature the latest accessibility and special education apps for people to experience hands-on.

Get Your Taxes Done at the Expo
MyFreeTaxes will be onsite to help eligible taxpayers with disabilities and their families (those with an annual income of $58,000 or less) file their federal and state taxes for free! Attendees should bring their 2013 tax information and tax coaches will be on hand to walk them through the process.

Relevant Workshops
A series of compelling workshops which address pressing disability issues will be offered free-of-charge to all attendees. Sessions will focus on travel, workplace, technology, living well, thriving as a parent of a unique child, treatments for autism, finding the correct mobility device and that is just for starters.

Climbing Wall, Dancing, Art and More!
Abilities Expo does not merely inform, it engages and it entertains. Attendees of all levels of ability can test their skills on an adaptive climbing wall, enjoy a comedy show and play adaptive sports. The Walk and Roll Dance Team--a crowd favorite--will be back to lead the hip-hop wheelchair dancing. There is also social dancing and a very memorable performance by a dancer with MS. Kids will love the face painting and special adaptive art activities especially created to accommodate all levels of ability.

To round it out, there will be the coronation of the 2014 Ms. Wheelchair California and an Artist Market showcasing the works of local artists with disabilities.

Meet the Animals
Animals have become an intrinsic part of the disability community. Some are essential to the healing process, while others help their human partners become more independent. Expo-goers will enjoy assistance dog demos, as well as a crash course on how to buy, train and live with your service dog.

Celebrity Encounters
The stars of Push Girls--a docu-series from the Sundance Channel which traces the lives of four dynamic women in Hollywood who happen to be in wheelchairs--will make an appearance at Abilities Expo. Tiphany Adams will give a workshop on the secrets to living well on February 28 and host meet-and-greets on March 1-2.Auti Angel's meet-and-greet will be on March 1, while Chelsie Hill will lead the Walk and Roll Dance Team in daily dance events.

Dr. David Kipper, medical expert, radio celebrity and doctor-to-the-stars, will answer any health-related questions on March 1 from 10:00 am to noon during the live broadcast of his KABC 790 AM radio program, The Medical Show.

Angela Madsen, Paralympian and World Record Holder for Rowing, will show off her ocean rowing boat, RowofLife, and introduce attendees to the exciting sport of adaptive rowing.

Mike Berkson and Tim Wamback, stars of the hit stage show Handicap This!, will perform on February 28, bringing their true-life adventure to expo-goers.

Using special adaptive climbing equipment, expert mountaineer Mark Wellman, the first paraplegic to scale El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, will help attendees conquer the 25-foot climbing wall.

Perfectly Imperfect Radio will mix it up with attendees and exhibitors at Abilities Expo on March 1. Hosts Geri Jewell, Kathy Buckley, Tobias Forrest and Mark Povenelli are all mainstream-recognized performers--actors, comedians, singer--and all have disabilities.
