Celebrate Women's History Month on WORLD Channel this March
Original productions feature inspiring and heartbreaking personal stories of women around the world
BOSTON, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Beginning Sunday, March 2, WORLD Channel will celebrate Women's History Month with impactful programs featuring women and girls facing adversity, overcoming challenges and leading the way to a better life. This special focus on women includes programs exclusive to WORLD Channel, including America ReFramed: LuLu Sessions, Global Voices: A Working Mom, and America ReFramed: Mothers of Bedford. America ReFramed, WORLD Channel's independent film series co-produced with American Documentary, Inc., is devoted to under-told stories about a transforming American culture in all its broad diversity.
Tuesday, March 4: In America ReFramed: LuLu Sessions, viewers meet LuLu, a hard-living, chain-smoking rebel with a tender heart. She's a poet with a potty mouth, farm girl, former cheerleader, world-class cancer researcher, and beloved professor. Dr. Louise Nutter, or LuLu, has just discovered a new anti-cancer drug when she finds out she is dying of breast cancer at the age of 42. Filmed during the last 15 months of LuLu's life, The LuLu Sessions is a raw, intimate, yet surprisingly humorous story about the filmmaker showing up for her best friend and ex-something, and together, testing the limits of their bond while taking on life's ultimate adventure.
Sunday, March 16: Global Voices: A Working Mom follows a divorced mother of two as she returns to her home and children in Bolivia after 15 years of struggling for a better life in Israel. To her regret, she discovers that her family members have become strangers. A Working Mom demonstrates that sometimes saving families means losing them.
Tuesday, March 18:America ReFramed: Mothers of Bedford follows filmmaker, Jenifer McShane, as she spends four years visiting with the women, many who are mothers, in the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. As a mother, Jenifer documents the difficulties of maintaining a mother-child relationship behind bars, and shares the stories of these women as they try to improve themselves and build a better life for their families.
"While WORLD profiles strong women battling challenges throughout the year, March is the perfect opportunity to highlight unique, important and inspiring stories," says Chris Hastings, executive producer, WORLD Channel.
