Ovation speaks out in favor of Video CHOICE Act

Ovation speaks out in favor of Video CHOICE Act

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the Video CHOICE (Consumers Have Options in Choosing Entertainment) Act introduced by Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), Ranking Member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (CA-19), senior Member of the Judiciary Committee, yesterday (December 12, 2013), Ovation, America's only arts network, issued the following statement in support of the bill:

"Rep. Anna G. Eshoo and Rep. Zoe Lofgren have drafted a bill that finally addresses the negative impact retransmission consent negotiations between distributors and the big broadcast groups have had on consumers. The Video Choice Act will put an end to blackouts, and examine the runaway costs associated with sports programming today. This proposed legislation is a positive step in addressing the ongoing issues that impact independent programmers like us and we're hopeful that Reps. Eshoo's and Lofgren's efforts will result in changes that will allow a more diverse range of programmers to thrive." - Brad Samuels, EVP, Content Distribution, Ovation.

The Video CHOICE Act aims to eliminate broadcast television blackouts and give consumers greater flexibility to choose the channels they receive each month from their cable, satellite or other pay-TV provider. A copy of the bill can be found here.
