Following On the High Heels and Hot Bikinis of 'Miss America,' Comes 'Ms. Senior America Pageant' Oct. 22-24 in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Oct. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Following on the high heels of Miss America, comes now a radiant, vivaciously talented group of women age 60 and over competing for the coveted title of Ms. Senior America Oct. 22-24 at Resorts Casino Hotel.

The uplifting Ms. Senior America Pageant (www.senioramerica.org) will be co-hosted by legendary singers and recording artists Dee Dee Sharphttp://deedeesharp.com/ and Steve Forberthttp://www.steveforbert.com.

The exuberant and growing pageant established by Al Mott in 1972 kicks off with a preliminary event 1:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 22, culminating in a talent show competition that evening, leading to the finals Thursday, Oct. 24. Plans are in the works to have it nationally televised, if not this year, then certainly next, said Tom Madden of TransMedia Group (www.transmediagroup.com), Ms. Senior America Pageant's PR firm.

Grammy-nominee Forbert is best known for his "Romeo's Tune" a Top 20 U.S. hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His most recent release is 2012's Over With You, called by American Songwriter "lovely, melancholy, lyrically moving and beautifully performed."

Dee Dee Sharp's career has included not only a string of gold records, but also a Life Achievement Award from the Philadelphia Music Foundation and the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. "And Dee Dee is back in the studio," said Madden. "It's a great opportunity to see her before her next album comes out."

Forbert will do a show for Ms. Senior America 8 PM Wednesday, Oct. 23 in the "Screening Room" at Resorts. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through his website or the pageant office.

"Certainly youth is beauty that excites, but age is charm and character that inspires," Mott said. "One of the reasons this pageant is thriving is because it's a celebration of women who've reached -- perhaps "achieved" is the more apt term, the "age of elegance."

The pageant is sponsored in part of ComfiHips® hip protectors, which will be worn by some of the Jersey Dancers, just in case.
