Judging Panel Taps Top Hollywood Luminaries Diablo Cody, Carlton Cuse, Morgan Spurlock, Edward Burns, Dylan McDermott, Kristen Stewart and More
NEW YORK, Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tickets are on sale now for the All-American High School Film Festival (HSFilmFest), created by award-winning filmmaker Andrew Jenks. Marking the first-ever national festival for high school students, HS Film Fest gives students across the nation an opportunity to showcase their talent through short films on the big screen October 4-6.
Jenks, producer and creator of MTV's critically acclaimed World of Jenks, has recruited top Hollywood talent to serve as judges for this years' festival including: Diablo Cody (Juno), Dylan McDermott (Hostages), Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), Edward Burns (Saving Private Ryan), Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga), Henry Winkler (Arrested Development,) Danny Rose (Scrubs) and Carlton Cuse (Lost).
Opening the festival is a screening of Romeo & Juliet. William Shakespeare's epic and searing tale of love is revitalized on screen by Downton Abbey creator and Oscar winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) and director Carlo Carlei. Opening nationwide on October 11(th), the film stars Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Douglas Booth (Great Expectations), Damian Lewis (Homeland), Kodi Smit-McPhee (ParaNorman), Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), with Stellan Skarsgard (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Paul Giamatti (John Adams).
Hosted in New York at the AMC Empire located in Times Square, HS Film Fest harnesses the young talent pool of amateur filmmakers by providing a national platform to amplify their work. Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, will be giving opening remarks.
Aspiring filmmakers submitted their work in a variety of genres and categories including: Drama/Narrative, Comedy, Documentary, Sports Narrative or Documentary, Animation, Music Video, Scholastic Book Trailer, Made in NY, PSA and an Experimental, for films that are in a category by itself.
Nominees from each category will be in New York to attend The All-American High School Film Festival where they will share their films with festival attendees.
