NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- FESTIVAL PEOPLE EN ESPANOL presented by Target the multi-faceted celebration of Hispanic culture and entertainment rocked the Alamodome and empowered thousands at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio over Labor Day weekend. San Antonio played host to visitors that traveled from as far as Canada and regions in Latin America for an event that was not to be missed.
"The second annual Festival People en Espanol delivered an outstanding, all-star program designed to entertain and empower the Hispanic community," says Monique Manso, publisher, People en Espanol. "With dynamic performances, awe-inspiring community engagement and inspirational empowerment sessions, this year's Festival People en Espanol is a proud testament of the growth that is evident in our community and an honorable prelude to Hispanic Heritage Month."
Several media outlets also agreed:
"...By all accounts, it was a good weekend to be at the Alamodome. The San Antonio venue housed its second annual Festival People en Espanol and brought in thousands with its mix of regional, pop and reggaeton estrellas. Blending in a variety of top Latin artists, the People Festival drew in fans from all across the country..." --Huffington Post, 9-3-13
"The ageless, strong-voiced Cuban-American singer was a highlight among highlights with stars Alejandro Fernandez, Tejano favorite Bobby Pulido, dreamy Jencarlos Canela -- who generated real heat -- and Maite Perroni. Earlier in the night, husband and business partner Emilio Estefan called the festival "the premier celebration of Latino culture." -- San Antonio Express News, 8-31-13
"With headliners such as Demi Lovato and Gloria Estefan, the People En Espanol Festival is the talk of this Labor Day weekend." --Fox News, 8-30-13
The cultural event took place this past Labor Day weekend (Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1) in San Antonio, Texas. The weekend's events kicked off Friday, August 30 when festival organizers and performers went into the community to reinforce the event's commitment to education and the community by visiting two local schools. Festival People en Espanol headliner Gloria Estefan reunited with retired grammar teacher, San Antonio's Dorothy Collins, who taught the music icon in 1965. The city presented a proclamation honoring Festival, People en Espanol, and Festival awarded Mrs. Collins for her outstanding achievements in education. Councilman Diego Bernal, Monique Manso, Publisher, PESP and members of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau were on hand at Winston Elementary School for the ceremony.
Each day, Festival engaged the Hispanic community with free daytime events at The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Saturday's highlights included an education panel with Soledad O'Brien and Texas' own Congressman Castro, Dream Act activist Benita Veliz and Pamela Silva-Conde addressing the future of education for Latino students. These efforts were furthered by honoring three of Festival's host city of San Antonio's most inspiring young students with scholarships. The life and legacy of the late "Queen of Banda" Jenni Rivera was celebrated during a moving sit-down interview with Rivera's daughter Chiquis Marin and brother Juan Rivera. On Sunday, Marcos Witt lifted spirits with an inspirational musical performance during a Soulful Sunday segment with Myrka Dellanos.
The evening line-up of performances at the Alamodome included some of the biggest names in Latino music including Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Fernandez, Demi Lovato, Wisin Y Yandel, Jencarlos Canela, Maite Perroni, among others. Target wowed the crowd at the Alamodome with a surprise set by Prince Royce who stunned the audience with a high-tech production that featured pyrotechnics and an interactive performance of his hit single "Darte Un Beso."
