Greater Cleveland Flute Society Announces Recital and Masterclass with Robert Dick on Sunday, October 6
CLEVELAND, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) announces a recital and masterclass with flutist Robert Dick on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1:30 p.m. The event will be at The Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Dr., Cleveland. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. This event is free for GCFS members (non-member admission: $15/adults, $10/students w/ID).
Dick lives in New York City and is on the faculty of New York University and the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yale. With equally deep roots in classical music old and new and in free improvisation and new jazz, Robert Dick has established himself as an artist who has not only mastered the flute, but has redefined it and its music. He is the inventor of the "Glissando Headjoint®", which does for the flute what the "whammy bar" does for the electric guitar.
Robert Dick will be performing a program of original works, including Lookout; Fish Are Jumping; and Flying Lessons (all composed by Robert Dick). He will also perform works by G. P. Telemann and Edgard Varese.
This program will also feature a clinic for all flutists followed by a masterclass (participants for the masterclass were chosen by blind audition). Dick says, "Flutists often think that learning new music, new sounds and techniques is something for the devoted (and advanced) few. Everyone can improve their playing through practice of throat tuning and other techniques I'll teach."
