Beer, Bourbon, Biscuits and Southern-Style Celebrations to Highlight the Natchez Tricentennial

NATCHEZ, Miss., July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2016, the oldest settlement on the Mississippi River will celebrate her 300th birthday -- and it's shaping up to be the biggest party in three centuries. The momentous, year-long celebration will feature everything from food and spirit festivals to historical tributes to celebrity appearances and much more.

The party will span 12 months and is scheduled to include the Natchez Food & Wine Festival, the Beer, Bourbon and Biscuits Festival, a Civil War-themed mud run, a kayak challenge, pop up shops, kid's activities, themed tours, concerts, historical reenactments, culinary showcases and more.

Over the course of 300 years, the city (also known as both the Bed & Breakfast and Biscuits Capitals of the World) has played host to countless notable figures and events. The Tricentennial will celebrate this rich heritage.

In addition, the city has dedicated 2% of overall proceeds towards the construction of a wellness center to serve underprivileged youth and other citizens in the community.

"We're thrilled that we're able to host this once-in-a-lifetime, year-long event, as well as raise funds for such a worthy charitable cause," said Natchez Director of Tourism Connie Taunton.

Natchez Mayor Butch Brown has also been championing the occasion since his election. "We want to put our tricentennial celebration on everybody's calendar," Brown told press.

The Southern-style shindig is expected to bring more than one million new visitors into Natchez. From breathtaking antebellum homes to the famous Natchez Trace parkway to mouthwatering cuisine, Natchez is a Mississippi treasure that welcomes all with unsurpassed Southern hospitality.

"The South won't know what hit it!" said the city's tourism consultant Jennifer Barbee, CEO of Jennifer Barbee Inc. "Everyone needs to get ready for one heck of a party."
