Espial Participates in Panel Discussion on WebRTC

Event Examines Potential to Redefine Personal Communications

OTTAWA, May 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Espial, a leader in on-demand TV software
and solutions, today announced that Dilshan De Silva, head of Espial
browser products, will participate in the panel discussion "WebRTC:
Transforming Enterprise Communication," May 23 from 7:30-10:30 a.m., at
the University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management. Hosted by
user-experience design and software-development firm Macadamian, in
collaboration with the Ottawa Product Management Association, the event
explores the potential impact of Web Real-Time Communication Technology
(WebRTC) on browser-to-browser communications.

WebRTC allows for an improved Web browsing experience by real-time
video, voice, and text communications, as well as screen-sharing
between Internet browsers -- without requiring proprietary software
plug-ins. As the head of Espial's TV browser division, which has
developed the award-winning Espial TV Browser deployed with major Smart
TV manufacturers across the world, De Silva brings unique insights into
consumer Web trends and a detailed knowledge of Web-browsing
technologies.

"WebRTC significantly enhances the video user experience by supporting
advanced functionalities like instant browser-to-browser chat," said De
Silva. "As part of the panel discussion, I will examine the
implications of WebRTC from the perspective of a Smart TV advanced user
experience, offering insight on the integration of live social
interaction on Smart TV platforms."

The panel will be moderated by Mark Lindsay, president of the Ottawa
Product Management Association, and emceed by Doug Michaelides,
managing director at Macadamian. Other expert panelists include Jim
Davies, chief technical officer, Mitel; Dave Michels, industry analyst
and telecommunications consultant, TalkingPointz; Scott Plewes, vice
president, user experience design, Macadamian; and Mark MacGowan,
director, IT infrastructure management for Canadian Blood Services.

"WebRTC will be a revolution in integrating social interactions into the
Web-based software people work and play on and the Web services they
use," said Fred Boulanger, CEO of Macadamian. "Web-based service
providers, marketers, and customer support organizations will leverage
WebRTC to enable contextually relevant voice and video interactions
that enhance customer experiences and corporate bottom lines."

At Espial, De Silva is responsible for managing the Espial TV Browser, a
high-performance Smart TV browser platform.  It allows Smart TV
manufacturers to accelerate their time-to-market and provide consumers
with the latest in user experience including advanced Web browsing and
interactive TV services. De Silva steers the development and deployment
of the Espial solution and works closely with consumer electronics
suppliers from across the globe. Prior to joining Espial, he held
positions in software development at Corel and Entrust. De Silva has a
bachelor's degree in computer science from Carleton University.
