Statement by the Honourable James Moore on the 13th Annual Port Moody Canadian Film Festival
OTTAWA, March 14, 2013 /CNW/ - The 13(th) edition of the Port Moody Canadian Film Festival opened its doors today
to showcase and celebrate some of the best films Canada has to offer.
The program for this year's four-day event includes Rebelle (War Witch), the 2013 Oscar nominee and recent winner of 10 Canadian Screen Awards,
including Best Motion Picture, Achievement in Direction, and
Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.
Created in 2000 by the Port Moody Film Society, the festival encourages
the discovery and appreciation of our rich and creative film industry.
Every year the festival offers an exciting variety of genres that
display the excellence in Canadian filmmaking. The featured stories and
performances provide film lovers with unique experiences and pay
tribute to those who contribute to Canada's success in the world's film
industry.
Canada is home to a wealth of talented artists and creators who enrich
our cultural lives and stimulate our nation's economy. In Canada, our
film and television production sector represents over $3 billion
annually to the Canadian economy.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada,
I would like commend the Port Moody Film Society and its partners for
showcasing some of Canada's best films and enriching the cultural life
of British Columbia.
