April rolls-in with an art sculpture tour, a scenic 10-mile running race through town and weekly outdoor music from some of North Carolina's best bands. Live music creates the perfect atmosphere for kicking back, relaxing under the shady oaks and magnolias every week during Fridays on the Front Porch on the lawn of The Carolina Inn. Enjoy a picnic menu and drink specials every Friday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. from late April through early October.
For science lovers, explore laboratories and try your hand at some super cool activities during the UNC Science Expo on April 13, part of the NC Science Festival. Forty small farms in central North Carolina are part of the nation's largest sustainable farm tour. Come learn about the area's local and organic farm and food scene. Meet local farmers and tour their beautiful farms April 27-28 on the Piedmont Farm Tour.
Hillsborough, NC starts its Last Fridays series on April 26 through September. It's a monthly evening event of live music, food, arts, crafts, kid's activities and even an old fashioned pie contest.
Carrboro, next to Chapel Hill, brings back its Jazz & More Brunch and evening After Hours on the Weaver Street Market Lawn where Dancing Bruce, hula hoops and local brews are part of the celebration.
This area in central North Carolina has some of the best farmers markets in the state and when spring rolls around, there are six to choose from open four days a week; Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday.
You can celebrate 60 years of beautiful gardens in Hillsborough during the Spring Garden tour May 11-12. The 31(st) Annual Hillsborough Hogg Day (new name in 2013) is May 17-18. This community fair-type festival is fun for the whole family with live music, children's games and entertainment, an antique car display, arts and crafts, food trucks, and of course barbecue. Hogg Day is now named after James Hogg, a merchant originally from Scotland who came to Hillsborough and was a patriot in the Revolution. This year enjoy the added bonus of living history activities.
Of course, the historic University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country especially in the springtime.
