During a red carpet event, the National Museum of American History will receive a donation from Joel Grey, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role as master of ceremonies in the film Cabaret. Grey will donate the hat worn by the gorilla in the film'swell-known musical number "If You Could See Her." The museum will display the new acquisition on the stage next to other objects from the film. Donated by Grey in 1989, these objects include Grey's wig, cane, pink satin vest, shoes and special makeup box.

Following the ceremony, the museum presents a special screening of Cabaret-marking the film's 40th anniversary and a meticulous remastering of the film by Warner Bros. Studio, not done in two decades. The program features an on-stage interview with Grey and curator Dwight Blocker Bowers.

Bob Fosse's 1972 musical drama, Cabaret, tells the story of nightclub entertainer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli), and her encounters with reserved English academic Brian Roberts (Michael York) and wealthy playboy baron Maximilian von Heune (Helmut Griem). Set in 1930s Berlin, the film takes viewers into the last days of the German Weimar Republic, as Hitler began to gain power. The screening is made possible by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Note to press: Media are invited to attend the donation ceremony but they must RSVP. Event tickets are sold out; limited seating in the theater for the 7:30 p.m. screening is currently available for covering journalists. One-on-one interviews with Grey are available on request.
