Leading the Colorado River Back to the Sea

NEVADA CITY, Calif., Jan. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Ocean Foundation together with Marine Ventures Foundation has a film premiering in the Wild And Scenic Film Festival on the morning of January 12(th) in Nevada City, California. "A Changing Delta" follows the story of Colorado River Delta in Mexico, its once prosperous environmental, cultural and economic contributions from its unfortunate neglect to the present day restoration efforts.

The theme of this year's Wild and Scenic Film Festival is "A Climate of Change" and ties in directly with executive producer, Tom McMurray's work documenting river ecosystems and citizen-led river restoration projects. "The film 'A Changing Delta' documents the work of a group of dedicated citizens and environmental groups to restore parts of the Delta to its original wild state even after many had said the Delta was dead. Their work in the community and schools and their work on the ground has reconnected the local people to this iconic river ecosystem as well as to the Delta's rich cultural heritage," says McMurray.

In order to bring together the best experts and partners needed to solve conservation issues Marine Ventures created and funded the BlueCloud Spatial project in collaboration with The Ocean Foundation. This project combines documentary film, community-centric educational maps and long-term project partnerships to help protect some of the great river ecosystems on the planet.

BlueCloud Spatial has worked closely with their partners at the Sonoran Institute and Pro Natura in the Colorado River Delta to highlight these issues and bring them to the forefront of the public's eye.

"We are proud to be the fiscal host of BlueCloud Spatial, and thus ensure its wonderful work is successful," said Mark J. Spalding, President of The Ocean Foundation. "I am even more pleased that the focus of this project is a place near and dear to all of us who have worked in the Upper Gulf of California; I cannot imagine a better way to document the story of how we have changed the Colorado Delta over time."
