Fans Cast A Record 55 Million Votes For TV.com's Best Of 2012 Awards

Fans Cast A Record 55 Million Votes For TV.com's Best Of 2012 Awards

"Community" Wins Big in Four Categories Including Best Comedy, "Homeland" Takes Best Overall Series and BBC's "Sherlock" Wins Best Drama

NEW YORK, Jan. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, TV.com announced the results of its annual Best Of Awards. TV fans everywhere sounded off on their favorite shows and TV stars, with more than 55 million votes cast in this year's awards. As a result, fans from around the world have deemed the 2011-2012 TV season the year of "Community's" misfits, "Homeland's" CIA operatives, and all the supernatural beings that graced TV screens this past year. Fans also celebrated getting more of what they wanted out of their favorite shows, including the coupling of Castle and Beckett, "Community" holding on to its spot on the primetime schedule, and more.

TV.com's annual Best Of Awards is created for the fans, by the fans, with the TV.com community actively involved in every step of the awards, from selecting the nominees, to championing their favorites via social media, and, of course, voting. Fans voted from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2, and social media played a big part as fans - and the shows and actors themselves - petitioned their social media followers for their support. More than 350,000 tweets and Facebook posts were made during the voting period, inspiring firefights between popular shows, even from those on the same network. The tiff between "Teen Wolf" and "Awkward" for the Most Underrated Show title resulted in parent network MTV stepping in to break up the fight. Others inspired goodwill, like "Community's" Joel McHale rallying his Twitter followers to boost fellow cast member Danny Pudi up in the Best Comedic Actor Category, which resulted in Pudi beating McHale to the title!

The categories with the most votes were: Best Couple (14.6M+ votes), Best Dramatic Actress (6.7M+ votes), Best Animated Series (6.2M+ votes), Best Overall Series (4.6M+ votes), and Best Procedural (2.9M+ votes).
