New Home Star joins with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to Make a Family's Dreams Come True for the Holidays

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, New Home Star and Bellamy Homes Welcome Friday Family to New Home

CHICAGO, Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In the homebuilding industry, there has been so much doom and gloom reported over the past several years, it's exciting to see some good news recently surface. The homebuilding sector has a deep history of giving back to their communities, in good times and in bad. To that end, the up and coming industry leader, New Home Star, is bringing the charitable giving side of the sector to the national spotlight and end 2012 on a high note with the airing of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, New Home Star, Bellamy Homes and well over 3,000 volunteers converged on a neighborhood in Lincolnton, North Carolina to change a family forever. The new home will be revealed on ABC affiliates around the country on Monday, December 17, 2012.

"This was a truly moving experience for me personally," said David Rice, CEO of New Home Star. "When I was young, my family lost everything in a house fire and I remember the community surrounding us with love and support which helped us get back on our feet. It's a core belief of our company to give back and it was awe-inspiring to see so many people give back to this one family in North Carolina."

The project emerged when New Home Star had conversations with producers from Extreme Makeover, who were looking for a builder to team up with in the Charlotte area. It was a natural fit for New Home Star to introduce the Extreme team to Bellamy Homes, a residential builder in Charlotte.

The combined contributions and 24/7 building effort of many companies, skilled laborers and general volunteers were required to bring this project to fruition. The 3,900 square foot house will be home to James and Devonda Friday and their eight kids. The Fridays have fostered 30 children, but when one special child came into their home it changed their life forever. The story he shared detailed how he and his four siblings were living in separate foster homes. James and Devonda decided these siblings should not be separated any longer, so they decided to adopt all five kids. In order to do so, they converted their carport into a makeshift bedroom. With the completion of the Extreme Makeover home, the kids will no longer have to share bedrooms and the parents will get a respite of their own.

In addition to their home, the Fridays will also get a boost for their House of Hope charity, which has been a vision of Devonda's for a long time. Through House of Hope, the Fridays will be able to serve even more families in need.
