Columbia Gas Turns Up Heat On Salvation Army Kettle Campaign - $10,000 Challenge To Be Issued At 3WS Radio Live Broadcast

CARNEGIE, Pa., Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With less than two weeks to go and nearly $450,000 to raise, The Salvation Army's Allegheny County Kettle Campaign is cooling down. But, the good people at Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania are turning up the heat on the annual fundraiser with a $10,000 challenge grant. This generous gift will be presented on Friday, December 14(th) at 1:00 p.m. at The Mall at Robinson during The Annual 3WS Radio/Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Broadcast.

Promoting The Salvation Army's Allegheny County Kettle Campaign for nearly 20 years, 3WS Radio has been a consistent fundraising partner to the nonprofit. In 2002, Vector Security came on board as a long-term sponsor and further enhanced and expanded the event. "Our friends at ClearChannel know and well understand our financial struggles," said Major William H. Bode, The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander. "We are deeply grateful that they brought Columbia Gas to the table to take this live broadcast to an even higher level."

In Allegheny County the kettle goal is set at $785,000. The mission of Columbia Gas and The Annual 3WS Radio/Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Broadcast is to at least meet, preferably exceed that goal. The day of the event, donors will be given the option to give in three ways: by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY; the 3WS website at www.3wsradio.com and log onto their online kettle; or the traditional kettle stationed at the broadcast. Bring the family and enjoy celebrity appearances, including past Steelers greats Andy Russell, Randy Grossman, and Craig Bingham; Pirates Manager, Clint Hurdle; the Penguins' Iceburgh and Mike Lange; and WQED's own Mr. McFeely. Meet and greet 3WS personalities Sheri VanDyke, Jonny Hartwell and Mike Frazer.

"Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is committed to actively supporting organizations that are working to make a positive difference in the communities we serve," added Mark Kempic, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania President. "We commend the Salvation Army for the work they accomplish every day to improve the quality of life for those in our community and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with the Salvation Army during this holiday season."

"Although the kettle has been in existence for more than 100 years, society has changed dramatically, relevant to time demands on the family," said Major Bode. "Everyone has so many commitments that it sometimes makes it difficult to give or volunteer at a kettle. That is why The Annual 3WS Radio/Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Broadcast is so critical to our Allegheny County Kettle Campaign."

Both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 126 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
