Centerplate Raises Over $400,000 for The Journey Home, Fights Homelessness at the Baltimore Convention Center

Centerplate presents Jennifer Hudson as surprise musical guest

BALTIMORE, Nov. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- After a night of exciting music, exceptional food, and touching personal stories, Centerplate, the leading event hospitality partner to North America's premier sports stadiums, entertainment venues and convention centers is proud to announce the final fundraising tally for "An Evening of Unexpected Delights." The gala ball, held October 20(th) at the Baltimore Convention Center, and hosted by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, helped to raise $400,000 for The Journey Home, Baltimore's 10-year plan to end homelessness in the city, and featured a stirring musical performance by surprise guest Jennifer Hudson.

"We were excited again to join forces with Mayor Rawlings-Blake, the city of Baltimore, and the Baltimore Convention Center in the second annual Journey Home Banquet to combat homelessness," said Des Hague, President and CEO of Centerplate. "Centerplate strives to enhance the communities in which we live and work and we're extremely pleased to have helped raise over $800,000 for the Journey home Campaign in the past two years."

All proceeds from the benefit will provide funding for two critical Journey Home priorities: an employment program that will operate out of three emergency shelters in Baltimore and the hiring of coordinators to support the academic and social needs of the 1,000 homeless youth living in shelters.

An Evening of Unexpected Delights was a progressive evening of dining, dancing and entertainment surprises, including an intimate musical event with one of America's most celebrated, Grammy-award winning artists, Jennifer Hudson. The evening included another surprise guest, actor Josh Charles, from the TV series The Good Wife, who was born in Baltimore and attended the Baltimore School of Arts.

In addition to catering the dinner, opening, and closing the receptions, Centerplate donated the funds to cover all expenses associated with entertainment for the evening's event.
