New York City's ACA Galleries To Host "The Art Of Graham Nash," An Exhibition Of Photographs, Photo Assemblages And Original Pastels

AN ARTIST'S RECEPTION WILL BE HELD AT ACA GALLERIES ON OCTOBER 18 FROM 5-8 PM

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Graham Nash has helped shape the world around him through ideas, innovations, and influential works of art for more than four decades. A legendary singer-songwriter, Nash is also an internationally renowned photographer and digital imaging pioneer whose work is represented--by a classic 1969 portrait of David Crosby--in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. "The Art of Graham Nash," an exhibition featuring a broad range of Nash's works, opens at New York City's ACA Galleries on October 11. The gallery will host an artist's reception on Thursday, October 18 from 5-8PM. The show--comprising 50 of Nash's photographic images, several politically themed photo assemblages and original pastel pieces--runs through October 27. ACA Galleries is located at (529 W. 20(th) St., 5(th) floor, NYC, 10011. Tel 212-206-8080 www.acagalleries.com)

Inspired by his father, an amateur photographer, Nash first started taking pictures when he was ten years old. "I had a camera before I had a guitar," he remembers. Some of the works featured in The Photographic Art of Graham Nash at ACA Galleries were previously published in the book Eye To Eye: Photographs By Graham Nash (Steidl, 2004). Among the images are portraits of family, friends, self, and fellow music world icons, as well as scenes and cityscapes captured during Nash's world travels. At the heart of Nash's photography is what he has described as, "That decisive moment when it all comes together in that little rectangle in the viewfinder--it all clicks, and then I click."

Nash is also widely known as an activist in support of causes related to social justice, peace, environmental stewardship, and progressive politics. He addresses these issues in several new and provocative large format photo assemblages--each hand-embellished mixed-media piece examines and questions contemporary political events and societal mores. "I believe that knowledge is power, that information and ideas are vital to our very survival, that our many problems should be faced, and can be dealt with," says Nash. "As an artist, I need to express my personal opinions about what goes on around me. My intent is not to alienate, but to engage."

Currently, Nash is nearing the end of the U.S. leg of Crosby, Stills and Nash's 2012 world tour, which concludes in October with five nights at New York City's Beacon Theatre. CSN 2012, a 25-song set presenting the group's first live performance film in more than 20 years, was released earlier this summer and has spent nine weeks in the Top 10 on the Billboard Music Video charts and is currently at #3. Captured in high-definition during the early portion of CSN's 2012 tour, the set is available worldwide from CSN Records in Blu-ray, DVD/2CD (3 discs), and Digital formats. A review in American Songwriter noted that, "What comes through is a genuine camaraderie, mutual respect and a joy of performing."

Born in Blackpool, England, Nash was appointed OBE by Queen Elizabeth in 2010. He first rose to fame with British Invasion hit makers The Hollies, and went on to form Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1968. Nash has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Nash has exhibited his photography worldwide. His work is collected in the book Eye to Eye: Photographs by Graham Nash, and he curates others' work in Taking Aim: Unforgettable Rock 'n' Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash. In a third book (and CD collection), Off The Record, Nash'sManuscript Originals presents handwritten images of the lyrics from 25 of the world's best loved songs. In 1990, he established Nash Editions, now one of the world's top photographic printmaking houses--and recognized by the Smithsonian Institution for its role in the invention of digital fine art printing. www.grahamnash.com
