Cyberwarfare Is The Focus Of The Julian Assange Show
MOSCOW, June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In this episode, which will air on RT on June 5th, Assange challenges Cypherpunks - cyber-activists whom Julian Assange credits with spawning WikiLeaks - on whether advances in Internet technology promote freedom or further government control over its citizens.
Assange and his guests discuss deterioration of privacy in the Internet age: how online services such as Google and Facebook enable collection of private information and governments - from the United States of America to Muammar Gaddafi's Libya - engage in military surveillance of its citizens.
"I see that there's now a militarization of cyber space because we have interception across all national border points," warns Assange. "The military has control or the intelligence agencies have control of [our personal] data ... so this is some kind of militarization of civilian life." Assange himself rose to worldwide attention by publishing classified and otherwise secret and private documents via WikiLeaks, a whistleblower website.
Assange had invited several Cypherpunks to his residence where he remained under house arrest for more than 500 days despite the lack of official charges against him. On May 30th the UK Supreme Court ruled in a split decision against Assange's appeal of Sweden's request for extradition.
Episode 8 of Assange's interview series will air globally on Tuesday, June 5th at 15:30 Moscow time /11:30 GMT/7:30 EDT across all RT channels in English, Arabic and Spanish, and will be rebroadcast every two hours thereafter.
