ActiveVideo CEO and President Jeff Miller to Discuss 'Total Cloud' On Cable Technology Roadmap Panel at TV of Tomorrow Show

ActiveVideo CEO and President Jeff Miller to Discuss 'Total Cloud' On Cable Technology Roadmap Panel at TV of Tomorrow Show

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The role of a "Total Cloud" approach to navigation and advanced television services will be among the topics of discussion when executives from ActiveVideo Networks(TM) and other members of the cable ecosystem address the future of the industry at the TV of Tomorrow Show next week in San Francisco.

On a panel entitled "Cable's Technology Roadmap: Embracing Strategies for Change," Jeff Miller, CEO and president of ActiveVideo, will speak about how rendering the TV user experience entirely in the network cloud can accelerate the industry's rollout of next-generation services, using existing operator plant and the deployed footprint of digital set-top boxes.

Miller will be on a panel of industry luminaries that includes: Don Dulchinos, senior vice president of advanced platforms and services for CableLabs and Frank Sandoval, Platform Architect, Comcast, as well as Charles Stucki, vice president and general manager of IP video systems for Cisco and Adrian Fowkes, CTO of the Americas Division, Strategy & Technology. Craig Leddy, principal of Interactive TV Works, will moderate the session, which will be held from 12:55-1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13.

ActiveVideo Networks' scalable and battle-tested CloudTV H5(TM) platform utilizes highly-optimized HTML5 browser technology running in remote servers to execute and render the complete user experience in the cloud. This full TV experience is then streamed to the user's device in a bandwidth-efficient adaptive bit rate video stream. Subscribers control the experience by using their remote controls to send key presses to the remote browser, controlling the application in the same way as they would if it were running locally. Surprisingly, the latency between a customer key press and the UI response is minimal.

This innovative, patented technology makes it possible to create and deliver pixel-accurate applications and user experiences across any digital set top box or connected device with enterprise-class performance. In-home device capabilities are irrelevant to the application designer because the application is fully executed and rendered on the cloud-based server, making it possible to create complex animations and functionality without worrying about device capability. CloudTV H5 can render and stream to thousands of users from a single cloud-based server.

Designed to interface seamlessly with existing cable operator network infrastructure, the "total cloud" approach can be completely deployed at low cost without changing or adding a single device in the home, thus achieving unparalleled service velocity. As television operators move more and more to a unicast distribution network, they can take advantage of the CloudTV platform to drive personalized, on-demand video to every customer. CloudTV is available on approximately 10 million screens in the United States and abroad with Cablevision Systems, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and other operators, as well as on Philips-brand NetTVs.
