Psychiatrist and Consultant to CEOs Says the Movie, "Mighty Fine" Could Redeem Stressed Executives
NEW YORK, May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Adopt Films today announced that Kerry Sulkowicz, M.D., famed psychiatrist and Managing Principal of the Boswell Group, a consulting firm focused on the psychology of business, states, "'Mighty Fine' taps into truths that will resonate with a lot of people." The new independent film, starring Chazz Palminteri, Andie MacDowell, Rainey Qualley and Jodelle Ferland, demonstrates the impact of a father's work-related stress on his family. "Mighty Fine," directed and written by Debbie Goodstein, will open in theaters on May 25.
Dr. Sulkowicz says, "It often takes a cataclysmic event for alpha-male types to get help. High-powered businessmen are often in denial." The film, which was semi-autobiographical, depicts how frustration at work can transform into abuse taken out on the family. Dr. Sulkowicz continues, "Tough economic times can breed feelings of helplessness, and those so inclined react with feelings of impotent rage. Unfortunately, the targets of that rage tend to be those who can least defend themselves because of their positions of dependency: spouses and children."
Co-executive producer, Barbara Goodstein noted, "The movie appears to have revealed an unrecognized wound. The feedback has been consistently positive as women across the country share similar stories."
Dr. Sulkowicz explains, "The way to end the cycle of male rage is to make the phenomenon conscious, not only to raise awareness but ultimately to interrupt the cycle of abuse."
The film is set in the 1970s, during a period of recession and economic uncertainty. Writer, director Debbie Goodstein adds, "The parallels between today's economy, with its high unemployment and recession, and that era, are undeniable. The story is a cautionary tale."
The interview with Dr. Kerry Sulkowicz is available at www.mightyfine-themovie.com, or the MightyFinethemovie Facebook page.
