Actor/Comedian Kente Scott to compete in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and shoot feature films in the city

OAKLAND, Calif., May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Oakland has produced some of the best talent in the world of entertainment. When actor/comedian Kente Scott received the key to the city during Oakland's 150th anniversary celebration, he vowed to be the next in that lineage. On May 18, he will participate in the 26th edition of the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition & Festival. For the first time in years, the BBABCF will hold all the competition rounds in Oakland, at Yoshi's in Jack London Square. In the fall, Scott will shoot his first feature film in the city.

"Some of the best shows I've done have been in front of Oakland audiences. And when I write scripts, I always envision the city where I was raised as the backdrop." - Kente Scott

Kente Scott has been featured in numerous movies and television shows during his twenty year career in Hollywood and has dreamed of filming projects in and about his hometown. This fall, Scott will shoot an independent horror film inspired by a local urban legend on location in Oakland with his producing partner, Shonda Scott, one of the top Bay Area media and public relations experts. What Would You Do? follows a multi-ethnic cast trying to survive being stalked by a maniacal entity that terrorizes the city. This is the first in a series of films that Scott envisions producing in Oakland.

"I believe that Oakland has so many different stories to be told and so many people outside of the city can relate to. I want to feature my city the same way that Tyler Perry does with Atlanta or Woody Allen does with Manhattan. - Kente Scott
