Brazilian Business Leader Mario Garnero Interviewed by Legendary TV Host Nancy Merrill in China

Airing on Chinese Television, show highlights Garnero's entrepreneurship and Brazil's Stance in the World

SHANGHAI, May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Mario Garnero, founder and chairman of Brasilinvest, Brazil' s premier merchant bank, is the guest of Emmy Award-winning television host, writer and producer Nancy Merrill in an interview to be aired on Chinese Television in mid-May.

A former host of talk shows and prime time specials on US networks NBC and CBS, Nancy Merril has already hosted world leaders and celebrities such as former US President Jimmy Carter; Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi; Mother Teresa, Larry King, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, and many other political leaders, top-notch entrepreneurs and Hollywood stars. Now a resident of Shanghai, Merrill's interviews are aired on various Chinese TV outlets, such as CNTV, CCTV and ICS.

In the show to be watched by millions across China, Garnero discusses global affairs and his concept of "Powerhouse Nations". They comprise BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and the 'N11', as Garnero refers to the coinage by Goldman Sachs' Jim O' Neill of a group of growth countries that includes Mexico and Indonesia, among others. Garnero voices his belief these growth markets have moved center stage and are now the very core of the global economic engine.

Chinese viewers will watch Garnero suggest Brazil and China are better-off as partners than competitors. Merril and Garnero delve into the global economic crisis. Garnero points to complementarities in bilateral relations and to the role Brazil and China currently play in helping keep interest rates in the neighborhood of 0% in OECD countries.

Garnero argues that by investing a considerable portion of their reserves in Securities issued by developed countries, Brazil and China make important contributions to keeping overall international liquidity levels upwards. Brazil and China thus "signal their indirect commitment to a fair share of responsibility in global financial governance."

Nancy Merrill hails Garnero's role as 'Father of the Ethanol Car' and his leadership in articulating oil and alcohol-fueled engines that have driven Brazil to the forefront of alternative energies. The show explores Garnero's accomplishments as an innovator in areas such as biofuels, mobile phones and computers in Brazil, as well as his global advocacy for the green economy.
