Klein is a former elementary teacher who speaks nationally on the Common Core Standards, which are slated for implementation in grades K-12 in 45 states over the next two years.
The Standards are internationally benchmarked and aim to prepare American students for college and career readiness. They raise the educational bar in this country and significantly elevate the importance of writing in the English Language Arts curriculum.
WriteSteps will be featured on the show's Parent Teacher Corner segment. In the interview, Klein will describe WriteSteps' Common Core program, including its use of graphic organizers that help even struggling students focus their ideas so they can write with clarity and ease.
WriteSteps utilizes Common Core writing strategies, teaching videos, and daily lesson plans to give teachers effective teaching tools that keep students interested and involved. Its lessons include "real" student writing samples that genuinely engage children, and its approach works across grade levels to help young writers develop confidence and build skills.
"WriteSteps helps students see writing as having a real purpose in their life," said Klein. "We are real teachers who understand what it's like to be in the classroom. We know what works."
The Parent Teacher Corner is sponsored by The Learning First Alliance, a partnership of 16 education associations with more than 10 million members dedicated to improving student learning in America's public schools. The Balancing Act airs nationally on Lifetime Television Monday - Friday at 7a.m. ET/PT.
In 2007, WriteSteps Founder Suzanne Klein committed herself to creating "teacher-friendly" writing lessons after her school took up writing as an initiative. Her program was so successful in Michigan that she aligned its lessons with the Common Core Standards to create an award-winning tool that is helping elementary teachers nationwide teach effective writing skills.
