Educational Content and Learning Experiences Wirelessly Delivered to Home TV Console
AT&T to Connect TVTextbook eLearning Device Portfolio
DALLAS, Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Don't touch that dial. A new variety of interactive educational content for the youngsters in the household is headed to a TV near you.
AT&T* today announced an agreement with TVTextbook to provide mobile broadband connectivity to TVTextbook's eLearning connected device portfolio. TVTextbook (TVT) delivers high-quality K-12 curriculum that is distributed through a learning console connected to the television. Only TVTextbook leverages basic television-a product found in virtually every U.S. household-to help school districts deliver a digital education to 100% of their students. AT&T's connectivity will bring a seamless, wireless connection between school and home.
Using AT&T's 3G network, the student's learning day will be extended to the home, helping to connect households where computers and Internet connectivity are not readily available. TVT's flexible design fits into any school district's IT purchasing strategy, as the content runs on any TV, as well as PCs, and, soon, tablets and other media.
"TVTextbook is an essential innovation that can improve the way students receive educational curriculum," said Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices, AT&T. "By connecting the TVTextbook console to the AT&T mobile broadband network, students will have easy access from home to educational content and fun learning experiences that they might not otherwise have outside of a school building."
This month, the Duval County Public School system in Florida will introduce the TVTextbook AT&T 3G solution in its schools through a trial featuring more than 800 TVT consoles. The TVTextbook console is connected through a 3G connected AT&T dongle. TVTextbook will introduce additional products in 2012, featuring embedded AT&T wireless services connected to AT&T's mobile broadband network.
As the product becomes publicly available, devices will be loaned to students for at home studies by school districts. The first device, the dongle, is an AT&T 3G data-only device with a USB form factor that allows users to wirelessly access interactive content on the TVTextbook console and communicate student usage data.
"We are excited that AT&T has joined us in our mission to level the technology playing field so that all students are equally prepared to compete academically and ultimately contribute to the global economy," said Caleb Schutz, President and CEO of TVTextbook. "With AT&T's network helping us to expand the connectivity options for TVTextbook users, school districts will find the program even more valuable."
