midem hack day 2012: Music Industry Mobilises to Create New Apps
PARIS, Nov. 30, 2011 <font size="2" face="Arial">/PRNewswire/ -- midem will play host to the second edition of the midem hack day which, following the same principle as Music Hack Days and in collaboration with their organisers, welcomes some 30 developers, hackers and technology innovators from around the world who will have 48 hours to come up with brand new applications for the music industry.

Taking place from Saturday 28 to Monday 30 January, the hacking weekend brings together developers and graphic designers from all horizons with the aim of conceptualising, creating and presenting new apps through the use of application programming interfaces (APIs) and data banks made available to them for free. Music, web, software, hardware, mobile, art; anything goes, as long as it's music-related.
midem hack day is launching a call for ideas which runs until 4 January and is open to all midem participants such as artists, labels, managers or those involved with new technologies. This will provide those in the music industry with a unique opportunity to be directly involved in this event and produce a wish-list of technological tools they'd like to see developers create. The best ideas, up to a maximum of 20, will be picked by the Music Hack Day organisers, and those chosen will outline their ideas in person to the developers during the opening session on 28 January.
At the end of the midem hack day, those apps developed will be presented to the public during Visionary Monday.
Music Hack Days are a reflection of the great creativity and innovative spirit which abounds in the tech community when it comes to music. Dave Haynes, one of the organisers, says: "Over the past two years, Music Hack Day has created an open sandbox and playground for developers to prototype and build new music apps using an array of new platforms, APIs and technology. Now, midem hack day provides the perfect bridge between these events and the wider international music industry. By providing support and ideas to Music Hack Day, the industry can experiment with new ways for fans to discover, consume and interact with music, creating essential new opportunities for the future."
The Music Hack Days offer a glimpse into the music industry's future, and the success of the 2011 edition illustrated this. Ten apps were invented including the soundcloud site "Takes Questions," which went on sale shortly after midem. Emerging from the encounter between singer/songwriter Imogen Heap and developers, "Takes Questions" is a response to artists' wish to communicate directly with their fans.
The closing date for submission of ideas is 4 January 2012. To access the entry form, click here.
