Love.Futbol Founder Drew Chafetz Discusses Future Goals on Focus Washington

WASHINGTON, Nov. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Drew Chafetz, founder and CEO of Love.Futbol, stopped by Focus Washington to discuss the group's accomplishments and future plans with host Chuck Conconi. The non-profit organization mobilizes communities in South and Central America to spearhead soccer field building projects in order to create safe playing spaces for children.

During the interview, Chafetz explained that there is a basic need for safe playing fields around the world. "The concept of Love.Futbol is very simple. It's about the right to play soccer," explained Chafetz. "I traveled throughout my childhood and found I was able to connect with locals through playing soccer. In Morocco in 2005, I began to realize that many children were playing soccer in dangerous circumstances and that's what inspired us to create Love.Futbol and build safe areas for children to play."

Love.Futbol has focused efforts in Guatemala, and the group recently celebrated the inauguration of its ninth soccer field construction project. Love.Futbol provides the raw materials and guidance to build a soccer field, but Chafetz explains that community organizing is the ultimate goal. "Love.Futbol brings communities together around their own soccer field projects. While the organization does not provide the soccer equipment, such as balls and proper footwear, Love.Futbol has teamed up with other organizations that have donated such provisions. Chafetz estimates that 6,000 children have been able to play soccer in a safe manner from their completed fields.

Chafetz said the organization hopes to expand to other countries and increase awareness about the right to play. "We are about the global community coming together to provide the right for all children to play soccer," said Chafetz. "We are confident that through collaborative efforts there will be more representation for the right to play soccer all around the world."
