"First Dog," Starring Former White House Pup, Hits Stores

NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Gaiam, Inc., a leading producer of lifestyle media, announced today the release of First Dog, an award-winning family film starring former President Reagan's dog, Little Bear, on DVD today. In this heart-warming film, a foster boy journeys across the country to return a lost dog to its rightful owner--the President of the United States of America, played by Eric Roberts (The Expendables, The Dark Knight, "Heroes").

First Dog tells a story about Teddy, "the first dog," who is mistakenly left behind at a presidential dedication ceremony. Teddy is played by Little Bear, a Queensland Heeler who was once rescued and adopted by former U.S. president Ronald Reagan and former first lady Nancy Reagan. As inspiration for the movie, Bryan Michael Stoller, director of First Dog, brought Little Bear's story to life and shares an uplifting story about doing the right thing.

Danny and Teddy will bring families in for an emotional and inspiring "tail" which encourages children to believe in themselves. The film features original songs by Dolly Parton and has earned accolades such as the Best Family Film award at the Sedona International Film Festival. Additionally, Reuters calls Little Bear's back story "heart-wrenching" (Reuters.com, October 2010) and The Dove Foundation gives First Dog four out of five Doves.

Total run time is 90 minutes and the suggested retail price is $14.98. Street date: September 6, 2011.
