CodeGreen Hosted Emmy Award-Winning Filmmakers Beverly and Dereck Joubert Premiere of National Geographic's 'Last Lions'

NEW YORK, July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On June, 30th, 2011, CodeGreen Solutions held the New York City premier of National Geographic's "The Last Lions" at the SoHo House. The Emmy award-winning filmmakers, Beverly and Dereck Joubert fielded questions from the audience of real estate owners and managers who came out to support this riveting documentary about the dramatically declining wildlife population in Africa. Not surprisingly the room was abuzz with energy and hopeful solutions to this issue of the declining supply of "wildlife real estate."

"The reaction over the past few years to finally do something to protect the environment is sprouting real global action," says Stephen Rizzo of CodeGreen. "From right in our backyard, with New York City's Local Laws 84 and 87 requiring energy audits, to the eye opening Big Cats initiative started by Nat Geo and the Jouberts."

The film's tale of survival makes for an exciting storyline, but unfortunately, its themes are based on harsh fact. 50 years ago, more than 500,000 lions roamed the Earth, and by the 1970s, that number had dwindled to an estimated 200,000. Today, the number has dropped to below 20,000. But not all hope is lost. 'Last Lions' is just one piece of the Jouberts' remarkable Big Cats initiative, which aims to halt lion population declines by the year 2015 and restore them to sustainable levels by supporting on-the-ground conservation projects, education, economic incentive efforts and a global public-awareness campaign.

The Q&A was moderated by Stephen Rizzo of CodeGreen Solutions with Beverly and Dereck Joubert and further detailed the Lions' struggle for survival. More of the Lions' remarkable story unfolded through audience participation. A cocktail reception followed. In attendance were Robert Sauchelli, National Program Manager for the EPA, Jay Black of SL Green, Jean Savitsky of Jones Lang LaSalle, and Alan Levine of Cushman & Wakefield among other prominent Real Estate professionals.
