Rosie on the House Show to Advise Homeowners on Fire Cleanup
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The host of the Rosie on the House home-improvement radio show is warning homeowners to beware of unscrupulous, unlicensed contractors vying for work in areas damaged by wildfires.
Home-improvement expert Rosie Romero echoes the urgent warnings from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and the Arizona Department of Insurance about "traveling" contractors who rush into the state whenever there's a disaster to take advantage of vulnerable homeowners.
His advice: When you hire contractors to help with construction, cleaning and debris removal, verify that the company has a valid ROC license (check it at www.azroc.gov) and insurance. Do not pay up front, and refuse to be pressured into making decisions before you're ready.
The July 2 broadcast of Rosie on the House show will feature advice for homeowners who are cleaning their houses of soot, smoke and odors after the Wallow wildfires in Arizona.
Romero, a 35-year veteran of the Arizona home-improvement industry, will guide homeowners whose houses were spared about how to clean their homes, work with their insurance companies, find a good fire remediation company and protect their property from future fires.
Co-host Romey Romero, a trained home inspector; air quality expert Sharon Altenhoff, owner of Air Quality Specialists in Glendale, Ariz.; and Meri-K Appy of the National Fire Protection Association will join him on the show.
Homeowners may call Romero on the air from 8-11 a.m. at (888) ROSIE-4-U to ask specific questions about how to deal with smoke and heat damage. The Saturday morning show will air live on radio stations KTAR in Phoenix (92.3 FM); KNST in Tucson (790 AM); KAFF in Flagstaff (930 AM); KQNA in Prescott (1130 AM); and KQNA in Sedona (780 AM).
Rosie on the House is Arizona's longest-running home-improvement radio show. The Rosie on the House Web site (www.RosieOnTheHouse.com) contains a contractor Referral Network plus hundreds of home-improvement tips for homeowners and do-it-yourselfers.
