SATURDAY, MARCH 26: MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS
Profile America -- Saturday, March 26th. Many of us have experienced the good times of playing in a high school or college marching band or orchestra, or singing in a chorus. The importance of these activities is being stressed in March, which is Music in Our Schools Month. The goal is to increase public awareness of the role music education plays in a balanced curriculum, especially in times of tight budgets. Learning to sing or play an instrument can set a lifelong pattern of participation and enjoyment. About 8 percent of Americans play musical instruments regularly and another 5 percent sing in a chorus or chorale. More than 9 percent attend symphonic concerts, and about 8 percent enjoy jazz concerts. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
