Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival Will Open With Benefit Screening for Susan G. Komen for the Cure LA County
BURBANK, Calif., March 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival will open Friday, March 25 at Laemmle's Sunset 5 in Hollywood with Pink Skies, a documentary feature directed by Gulcin Gilbert. Presented by Wells Fargo, the screening will begin at seven o'clock followed by a conversation with the filmmakers and a reception at The Libertine. Proceeds from the screening will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure LA County.
About Los Angeles Women's International Film Festival
The festival is produced by Alliance of Women Filmmakers, an organization established to empower women filmmakers to create diverse roles for women as well as increase exposure for women causes. Each year in March, the festival showcases narratives, documentaries, animation and student short films made by women. In addition to providing women a platform to share their unique stories, the festival serves as a fundraiser for women causes.

Pink Skies is an inspirational film about the empowerment of women and overcoming obstacles as human beings. The film chronicles the extraordinary event 'Jump for the Cause' which brought together 181 women from 31 countries to create a world record, all-women skydiving formation. Over 15 years, the Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate has raised $8.2 million to provide community-based grants to local organizations providing breast cancer screening, education, and treatment services and to help fund national breast cancer research programs. A major focus of the Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate is to help uninsured and underinsured women and men who have symptoms of breast cancer and are facing barriers to accessing health care, particularly women and men under 40.
