JAZZ AIN'T DEAD - Tamela D'Amico Performs at Ivan Kane's Cafe Was

The multi-talented artist Tamela D'Amico has been gaining a great deal of attention as a formidable song stylist and highly appealing jazz singer. She will be performing fresh arrangements of standards from her CD Got A Little Story, her new single "Down With Love," and originals co-written with singer/songwriter Billy Vera at Cafe Was on Vine Street starting at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday April 17 with her septet.

The No Cover Charge show, which is titled Jazz Ain't Dead, reinforces the timelessness and relevance of jazz both in Ms. D'Amico's interpretations of classic jazz standards and her songwriting abilities. "I plan to perform some new versions of standards plus some recent songs that I wrote with Billy Vera, including one titled 'Jazz Ain't Dead.' Club owner Ivan Kane has put together Cafe Was as a theater in the round showcase club. This is the first time that I've ever sung a no cover show and I greatly look forward to giving back to fans and interacting with new faces in the audience."

Since moving to Los Angeles, her life has been a whirlwind of creative activity. Developing simultaneous careers as a singer, actress and director, D'Amico formed her own production company, La Strega Entertainment, in 2006.

Ms. D'Amico's debut CD Got A Little Story, executive produced by television star Peter Krause (Parenthood, Six Feet Under) and produced and engineered by Grammy winner Jimmy Hoyson, went into worldwide release in 2010 through LML records. "My concept for the album was to perform jazz standards that were either not recorded very often or were usually recorded by men and arrange them in a manner that made them swing in an exciting way to gain new jazz lovers. I am very blessed to have teamed up with arranger Chris Walden who makes the album sound exactly as I had imagined it in my head." Among the highlights is her transformation of the Beatles' "And I Love Her" into the Billie Holiday inspired" And I Love Him."
