Wounded Warrior Project Gratefully Acknowledges Donation from Lifetime's 'Army Wives'

NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is pleased to accept a generous donation from Lifetime Television's "Army Wives." The popular show, which charts the lives of Army spouses, has long taken an interest in WWP's work with injured servicemen and women and their families. Kim Delaney, who stars as Claudia Joy Holden on the show, toured and visited with wounded warriors at Bethesda Naval Medical Center last summer.

Over 40,000 of our nation's armed forces have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts. Hundreds of thousands more are estimated to be recovering from invisible wounds of war, including post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, and traumatic brain injury. WWP assists wounded warriors and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery. Whether through caregiver retreats, combat stress programs, career and education services, or adaptive sporting opportunities, WWP empowers warriors with the tools essential to not just survive their injuries but to thrive and achieve personal and professional success.

Ms. Delaney and Lifetime are pleased to join WWP in helping ensure that this generation of veterans is the most successful and well-adjusted in our nation's history. "After visiting with some of the injured and their families at Bethesda, my long time personal and professional commitment to wounded warriors was reinforced," said Ms. Delaney. "Both the show and my history as the daughter of an American Veteran make this a cause I am very passionate about."

The fifth season of Army Wives will premiere on Sunday, March 6, 2011 on Lifetime. Check your local listings for time.

"The donation and the continued interest of 'Army Wives' in furthering the mission of WWP is very heartening," said Adam Silva, Chief Development Officer of WWP. "It is when celebrities like Ms. Delaney and organizations like Lifetime take the initiative to help raise awareness for the needs of wounded service members that we are able to make the greatest impact on the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country."
