TOMORROW: National Education Reform Advocate Comes to Greenville to Promote School Choice

GREENVILLE, S.C., Jan. 28, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Nationally-recognized education reformer Bruno Behrend--director of the Center for School Reform at The Heartland Institute--will speak tomorrow morning (January 29, 2011) in Greenville about the need to improve educational options for children. Behrend will speak during a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Cartel, to commemorate National School Choice Week.

Bruce Gardner, of Tea for Education, will also speak. This FREE event, which is sponsored by the Americans for Prosperity - South Carolina will take place at 10:00 am at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites at 1036 Woodruff Road in Greenville.

The Cartel--which portrays a public education system that is beholden to special interests, ignores the needs of parents, and misallocates hundreds of millions of dollars intended to help children--has served as a rallying cry for advocates who want to give parents immediate educational options for their children. The trailer and reviews are available at: TheCartelMovie.com

National School Choice Week, January 23-29, 2011, will shine an unprecedented spotlight on the need to dramatically improve educational outcomes for children and will highlight the benefits of school choice programs. Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in events across the country during the week, which is being organized by more than 150 national and state groups.

"This event in Greenville will continue an important debate on the need to provide parents with access to the best schools for their children," said Kyle Olson, executive director of National School Choice Week. "At the end of the week, we hope that more parents will begin to demand enhanced educational options for their children and that lawmakers in South Carolina and across the nation will take notice."
