Participant Media and The White House Project Host Fair Game Summit Uniting Women Leaders Around Nuclear Security

Valerie Plame Wilson joins leading experts on nuclear weapons from government and advocacy groups for two-day training

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Women leaders are gathering this week at the Fair Game Summit: Women and Nuclear Security to rally around one of the most pressing issues facing our nation: the dangers posed by nuclear weapons. Hosted by Participant Media and The White House Project, the two-day leadership training will focus on how women can become more involved in advocating for policies that increase our nation's nuclear security, including the ratification of the New START Treaty. More than 150 women from around the country are slated to attend the event at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel.

The summit is the centerpiece of Participant Media's social action campaign for the film Fair Game, a Participant Media, Summit Entertainment and River Road Entertainment presentation based on Valerie Plame Wilson's memoir. Wilson will kick off the two-day event with a keynote speech in which she describes how her commitment to serving her country led her to become a CIA agent and drives her current role as an advocate for nuclear non-proliferation. She will also urge the attendees to take an active role in making nuclear security a priority issue for lawmakers and voters. This evening, summit participants will attend an exclusive screening of the film, which stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn and will be released in select cities on November 5th.

Other highlights from the first day of the summit will include a panel discussion moderated by Politico's Laura Rozen on the role of nuclear security in our nation's safety featuring Susan Braden, Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Department of State; Marcelite J. Harris, Retired U.S. Air Force Major General; Heather Hurlburt, Executive Director of the National Security Network; and Dr. Brad Roberts, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Missile Defense Policy. The attendees will also hear from Ellen Tauscher, Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security on the emerging role of women in nuclear diplomacy.

On day two of the summit, attendees will participate in a range of training exercises aimed at enhancing their abilities to be effective advocates for sensible nuclear weapon policies. They will also hear from Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, who served as the chief negotiator of the New START Treaty, which is currently awaiting ratification by the Senate.
