On July 1st, Hurricane Alex struck the northern states of the Mexican Republic. Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas and Coahuila have been the most affected, with damages exceeding 10 billion pesos (about $765 million USD).
Continued heavy rains have threatened the Venustiano Carranza dam to overflow, forcing approximately 18,000 residents from the lower parts of Anahuac, Nuevo Leon to evacuate their homes. The endless rains have kept thousands of families away from their homes and without safe drinking water or electricity. Mud and trash has collected in the streets and now an outbreak of dengue fever is spreading fast through the communities.
