The Film That Blows the Lid Off the Fashion and Cosmetic Industries Arrives on DVD July 13th 2010

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- On July 13th Xenon Pictures will release "America the Beautiful," the award-winning documentary that takes an entertaining investigative approach to expose some of the dark forces behind America's ugly obsession with youth and beauty. Filmmaker Darryl Roberts goes on a five-year journey to unearth the truth behind what causes women to have self esteem issues which too often lead to unnecessary cosmetic procedures and eating disorders. The film includes startling revelations with executives at top cosmetics and fashion companies who describe the damage that occurs to young women who are manipulated by the media to live up to impossible standards of physical perfection. "America the Beautiful" also provides exclusive interviews with health experts who discuss how many of the beauty products that claim to have the power to make women more attractive often contain dangerous, even cancer causing chemicals and additives.

"America the Beautiful" includes brief appearances by Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Aisha Tyler, Anthony Kiedis, Tisha Campbell, Julianne Moore, Michael Beach, Mena Suvari, Martin Short, as well as Ted Casablanca from the E! Channel and Susan Schulz, the Editor-in-Chief of CosmoGirl. The film premiered at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival before going on to play at 19 additional international festivals including The New York International Children's Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival where Mr. Roberts won a Special Jury Prize for "Best Director" in the Documentary Category.

"America the Beautiful" has been embraced by many respected film critics such as Roger Ebert who praised it as "A film that might rescue the lives of some girls." It has been featured on CNN and The Today Show. But the film's most significant acclaim has come through the tremendous grassroots support from women's groups and hundreds of enthusiastically received screenings on college campuses throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The DVD's Special Features includes the featurettes "Cosmetic Ingredients Are Mislabeled" and "Hope for Eating Disorders."
