India's first fully professional orchestra - The Symphony Orchestra of
India (SOI) will make its international debut at the Fifth Festival of the
World's Symphony Orchestras (FFWSO) with a performance of Beethoven's 9th
Symphony on June 11, 2010, at the Hall of Columns, Moscow. Maestro Alexander
Anissimov will conduct the SOI and the State Russian chorus from Sveshnikov
with soloists from Big and Mariinsky Theatres.
The SOI has been created by the National Center for the Performing Arts
(NCPA), India's premier art and culture institution which is based in Mumbai,
and is comprised of talented musicians from different nationalities.
Khushroo Suntook, Chairman, NCPA, says, "The SOI is proud to be invited
to perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony in one of the music capitals of the world
- Moscow. It is an honour for an Indian orchestra to be invited to a country
known world over for its contribution to Western Classical Music."
It's a breakthrough for the SOI that in a short span of four years since
its inception, it has been invited to debut on a platform (FFWSO) which has
been graced by some of the greatest orchestras of the world. SOI Music
Director Marat Bisengaliev feels this concert is the perfect international
introduction for the SOI. "Russia is a highly competitive market for any
musician or orchestra. Moscow is known for its high standard of concerts and
the Hall of Columns is one of its jewels. This performance will open up a
host of opportunities for the SOI for tours and sound recordings all over the
world," he says.
