Hype or Reality: Are the World's Religions in Mortal Conflict?
The Great Mystery Documentary Follows Filmmaker Catherine Corona on a Quest to Discover the Answer
BOULDER, Colo., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- In her documentary, The Great Mystery, released today on DVD, filmmaker Catherine Corona set out to answer the question: Are the world's major religions really in a mortal conflict? "I'd been watching the news and it seemed that war and terrorism are being blamed on religions," says Corona, adding, "and because the differences between the religions were being portrayed as irreconcilable, the conflicts would never end. It seemed impossible."
Corona, who earned her master's in theology and a doctorate in Spiritual Science, decided to find out for herself. The result is The Great Mystery, a film four years in the making.
Corona focused on ordinary people to explore the core beliefs of the faiths and if they are directing their congregations toward the same spiritual end. She adds, "I was blown away by the candid insights that I captured. These were everyday people of different faiths looking at the same issues, not on a grand scale, but in their everyday lives."
Corona, with more than 25 years in the film industry, kept the tone of the movie heartfelt and uplifting. "The people I met were fascinating and engaging, uplifting, and full of hope. I wanted The Great Mystery to feel the same way," adds Corona. "There is a power and force when we embrace our similarities and understand that really we are all going in the same direction," says Corona.
"We can change the world," says Corona. "We can make a significant difference through small acts of reaching out to get to know each other, participating, and finding common ground. One day, the divisions between the religions will transform to a powerful force for helping humanity in all areas of need."
