Award-Winning Book by International Spy Makes English Debut

BURBANK, Calif., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- In a tell-all book released for the first time in English, former Cuban military leader-turned-spy Julio Antonio Del Marmol exposes the Cuban government's corruption and totalitarian rule.

His book, Cuba: Russian Roulette of America, was first published in 1976 and won a 2008 award from the National Latin American Institute of Journalism for exposing the barbarities of Fidel Castro's regime. The book has been printed in three editions; a fourth edition was underway when Del Marmol's son was killed in Cuba in retaliation for his father's revelations. The English translation has been published by Lambert Academic Publishing in Germany and is available now on Amazon.com. An updated re-release of the Spanish book is planned for the end of July 2010.

Del Marmol was also recognized by several heads of state in the Spanish speaking countries in Europe and America for his book. He also received a hand-made cross, commissioned by Pope John Paul II.

The author's compelling introduction, a personal account of Castro's 1958 overthrow of Gen. Fulgencio Batista's regime, sets the stage for the dramatic real-life events to follow:

"The news of Batista's defeat brought joy to my home. This happiness, shared by so many, would soon turn sour for us all. But we did not know then. ... With the typical enthusiasm of a 12-year-old boy I wrote Castro, asking permission to form a Military Youth Brigade. ... I was appointed COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE YOUTHFUL COMMANDS OF THE REBEL ARMY. ... Castro personally handed me my appointment and a .38-caliber gun. This is how a little Commander was born!"

After Castro became a more oppressive dictator than Batista, Del Marmol turned against his regime and the Little Spy was born at the age of 14. Over the next decade, he became the most hunted spy in Cuba, code named by Castro himself as "The Lightning." He took information concerning top-secret operations from government leaders and transmitted it to the global intelligence community.

Del Marmol ends the book with his personal creed, reflecting his lofty values: "... Honor and dignity are cloudy notions in declining minds. When they cease to have a meaning for men, the sky should darken and life conclude."

The author continues his advocacy today, lending support in the States to Ladies in White, a Cuban-based opposition movement composed of female relatives of jailed dissidents. They wear white to symbolize peace. An outspoken critic of communism, Del Marmol says: "Communism is the Devil's way to control the masses." He adds, "The times have changed. Cuba is no longer the Russian Roulette of America -- it is the Russian Roulette of the World."
