Animals Are Angels in New Family Film
LOS ANGELES, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Are animals angels sent to help people? Absolutely, according to a new major motion picture. MAGIC, starring Leo Grillo, Robert Davi, Lori Heuring, Elaine Hendrix, Greg Grunberg, Tanya Allen and Sammi Hanratty, is the story of three lonely people and the dog that brings them together.
Directed by John Penney and Robert Davi, with Christopher Lloyd as the voice of MAGIC the dog, MAGIC is a family-friendly film centered on ten-year-old Kayla Fairmont. In denial about her mother's death seven years ago, Kayla lives with her father, Brad Fairmont, a lawyer who still cannot face the loss of his wife. The two are isolated in their pain -- until Kayla meets MAGIC, an escaped research dog.
MAGIC is special: He can talk to Kayla. What's more, he has been sent from the spiritual realm by Kayla's mother, charged with helping Kayla and Brad heal. And there is another person who needs MAGIC's help: Dr. Sarah Westcott, a research scientist who has lived a solitary life. Dr. Westcott can see something special in MAGIC, and it's causing her to rethink her profession.
When Kayla and MAGIC disappear, pursued by the ruthless, profit-driven research scientist Dr. David Ortero, Brad and Sarah are drawn closer together in their search for the pair. Shot on location at the 94-acre D.E.L.T.A. Rescue (http://www.deltarescue.org/) SuperSanctuary, MAGIC is a powerful tale of love, tragedy and redemption.
"MAGIC focuses on that time in a girl's life when the magic ends," stated Grillo, the actor and animal activist who founded D.E.L.T.A. Rescue over 30 years ago. "Around Kayla's age, girls are putting away fantasies of Santa Claus and fairies, and they're moving into a more tumultuous time. By demonstrating how one special dog heals these three fractured lives, MAGIC shows us how the animal angels all around us can help our girls hold onto some of that magic for a little while longer."
MAGIC is inspired partly by Grillo's own daughter and partly by the work of D.E.L.T.A. Rescue. An uplifting family film that will leave moviegoers ready to look at animals in a new light, MAGIC is set against a soundtrack featuring recordings by Celtic Woman and Bobby Goldsboro.
"We're excited to release MAGIC and to give the public a glimpse inside D.E.L.T.A. Rescue," said Grillo. "We intend the film to serve as a pilot for a weekly television series that will feature the stories of our rescue animals helping people. This is an exciting time for D.E.L.T.A. Rescue."
