WEDNESDAY, MAY 26: PEGGY LEE'S 90TH
Profile America -- Wednesday, May 26th. Today would have been singer Peggy Lee's 90th birthday. One of the most distinctive vocalists, her career spanned nearly seven decades. Born Norma Deloris Egstrom, she started signing around her hometown in North Dakota. Benny Goodman heard her and she joined his band. Peggy Lee soon proved she was also a talented songwriter and actress. She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Pete Kelly's Blues" and played four different roles in the Disney movie, "Lady and the Tramp". She was nominated for 12 Grammys, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award. She also was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
