PBS' To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe Honors National Small Business Week with a Feature on Latina Entrepreneurs

WASHINGTON, May 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The PBS program, "To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe" (the only woman-owned news analysis program on national television) is pleased to honor the contributions of all small business owners for National Small Business Week, which falls this year in late May. Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the economic well-being of America. These contributions are especially important in this tough economy, as America struggles to rise out of a deep recession. Studies have shown small businesses generate many more jobs than America's largest corporations.

To the Contrary covers all issues affecting women, children and communities of color. As such, its coverage includes a focus on the work of Hispanic nonprofit wealth-building organization, NALCAB, or the National Association for Latino Community Assets builders. NALCAB member organizations, Latino Economic Development Corporation of DC, Latino Economic Development Center of MN & Mission Economic Development Agency, are training Latinas in the critical skills needed to transition from hourly wage workers to business owners. Too little positive media attention is given to the incredible work of this organization and others like it, so To the Contrary has stepped in to fill that void.

To the Contrary's coverage would not have been possible without the generous support of Sam's Club. Sam's Club, in turn, is pleased to support PBS' To the Contrary's efforts to "educate the public on how successful Latino and Latina small business owners improve their entire communities," said Sharon Orlopp, senior vice president of People at Sam's Club. "The Sam's Club Giving Program strives to fund efforts that support entrepreneurship, and that reinforce our culture and commitment to diversity and inclusion for our associates and membership base."

Interested parties may e-mail requests to dvds@tothecontrary.org for free DVD copies of the Latina Entrepreneurship segment. Please explain why you want the DVD and who else will view it with you. Supplies limited.

Please check local PBS stations for airtime during the weekend of May 22-23d.

To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe is in its nineteenth season and can be seen on PBS stations in 90% of TV markets nationwide. For more information, visit the To the Contrary website at www.tothecontrary.org
