First National Association of Preventive Kidney Care and Counseling (NAPKCC) Charity Gala
WASHINGTON, May 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Olivia Fox, nationally known radio personality and host of "Out of the Box, with Olivia Fox," on Washington, D.C.'s Radio Magic 102.3FM, and internationally renowned visual artist, Lisa Jones, announce their plan to partner in co-hosting the first National Association of Preventive Kidney Care and Counseling* (NAPKCC) Charity Gala.
The NAPKCC Gala will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at The Art Gallery from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to view Ms. Jones' highly anticipated Reflections Collection while enjoying the smooth sounds of Stephanie Todd, signature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, special guest speakers and celebrity guests.
In 1996 Ms. Fox was diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis - a disease that attacks the kidney's filtering system. Ms. Fox was in remission until February of 2007 but has been undergoing dialysis treatment for the past two years and will eventually need a life saving kidney transplant.
Consistent with the mission of NAPKCC, the purpose of the NAPKCC Charity Gala is to raise awareness about kidney disease, renal failure and organ transplantation. Ms. Fox is determined to educate the general public about the symptoms of kidney disease, the critical role kidneys play in the maintenance of general good health, and the overall care required for those faced with end stage renal failure. During the Charity Gala, Ms. Fox will share more on her own struggle with renal failure and detail her personal journey to find a suitable kidney for transplantation.
The evening will also include a brief talk by Dominic Raj, M.D., director of the Kidney Disease & Hypertension program at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. Dr. Raj is a fellowship-trained nephrologist and researcher who is dedicated to furthering treatment advances for this chronic, debilitating disease. He is currently participating in Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT), a nine-year, $114 million study funded by the National Institutes of Health. This study seeks to determine whether maintaining blood pressure levels lower than current recommendations further reduces the risk of cardiovascular and kidney diseases, or age-related cognitive decline.
*NAPKCC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible.
Ticket donations are $50 in advance purchased via: www.oliviafox.com and $60 at the Door.
