Thor Takes Boromir's Cash; Sean Bean and Chris Hemsworth Movie Opens April 9th Nationwide

CHICAGO, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Before Chris Hemsworth signed for Thor and Star Trek, he filmed CA$H-- a quirky psychological thriller slated to release in select cities nationwide on April 9th, 2010.

Notorious bad-boy Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson & the Olympians) and 2011's biggest actor Chris Hemsworth (Marvel's upcoming Thor, Star Trek) star in CA$H.

Filmmakers believe moviegoers will gain a unique perspective on both Bean and Hemsworth in CA$H.

"Chris Hemsworth had been in the U.S. only a few weeks when he auditioned for CA$H in Chicago. We saw potential in him, and CA$H became his first film," said Director Stephen Milburn Anderson. "He has shot to stardom since CA$H. We knew he was going to be huge."

"While Sean Bean was hailed for his performance in Lord of the Rings and carries a huge fan base in the U.S. and U.K., CA$H is his first lead role," said producer Naveen Chathappuram. "We are pretty excited about that."

Chathappuram added that he and Anderson went against the advice of industry executives who urged them not to cast a "newbie" like Hemsworth alongside a veteran like Bean.

CA$H is a quirky psychological dramedy and action thriller that explores the power money wields over us all. When struggling couple Sam (Chris Hemsworth) and Leslie Phelan (Victoria Profeta- Push, The Drew Carey Show) find a suitcase full of cash, they think their lives will take a turn for the better--until the strange and sinister criminal Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean) arrives at their doorstep, looking to collect what he believes is rightfully his. What follows is a tumultuous adventure through the streets of Chicago as the three are pulled into a desperate spiral of deception and violence ... all for cash.

At a time when foreclosures and debt are common, CA$H takes on themes of greed and morality amidst a fast-moving game of cat and mouse. Anderson has lightly based the film on the infamous Milgram Experiment. The study, performed at Yale in the early 1960s, showed that a strong majority of normal people will surrender their conscience to a person perceived as an authority figure.

"Sam is a good person," Hemsworth said of his character. "He's a normal guy who is excited about the money in the beginning--similar to a child's excitement. It contrasts what happens later. Sam's character evolves when he's faced with a dangerous person like Pyke."

"With Pyke, it's psychological intimidation," Bean said. "He's the kind of guy who studies yoga, reads Nietzsche -- straight, uncompromising literature that he uses as his life's model. They have his money. He wants it back."

Oscar-winning studio Roadside Attractions has acquired all U.S. theatrical rights to CA$H; Lionsgate will handle the subsequent DVD release. Anil Ambani's Reliance ADA Group will bring the film to additional BIG Cinemas screens.

Filmmakers urge moviegoers to support CA$H "in these hard economic times," which also happens to be the tagline for the film.

"CA$H is an independent film in a world of Avatars," said Chathappuram. "We hope the audience will support CA$H on April 9th as two great actors, Sean Bean and Chris Hemsworth, come together on one screen."
