LOS ANGELES, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- MLA Partner Schools, a nonprofit organization working to improve schools and empower neighborhoods in Los Angeles, will honor producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall at L.A.'s PROMISE GALA dinner, April 27, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Tom Cruise will present the Steuben designed award. Grammy nominated British pop singer and songwriter Natasha Bedingfield will perform and Reno 911 creators Tom Lennon and Ben Garant will emcee.
Six-time Academy Award® nominee Kathleen Kennedy is one of the most successful and respected producers and executives in the film industry. She was recently elected Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Among her credits are three of the highest grossing films in motion picture history: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and The Sixth Sense. Kennedy heads The Kennedy/Marshall Company, founded in 1992 with director/producer Frank Marshall. Most recently, the Company produced The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The film received three Academy Awards®.
Visionary producer/director Frank Marshall has more than 50 films to his credit and has helped shape American film. In 1981, with wife Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg, he co-founded Amblin Entertainment, one of the industry's most productive and profitable production companies. Marshall is also a former VP, member of the Board of Directors and member of the Executive Committee of the United States Olympic Committee.
MLA Partner Schools is a nonprofit organization that improves schools and empowers neighborhoods in South Los Angeles, one of the most disenfranchised communities in Los Angeles. MLA creates high performing urban schools that combine innovation, equity and access to offer a college-ready education to every child in the surrounding neighborhood. These schools become community focal points that support and strengthen their communities.
An MLA Partner School is a public school designed and managed in collaboration between MLA, LAUSD and community stakeholders. The city's first Partner School, West Adams Prep, opened in September 2007 to serve 2,500 students and set a new standard for public schools. Manual Arts High School joined MLA in 2008, bringing MLA's total student enrollment to over 6,000.
