High style meets green living in the heart of New England
Located in The Pinehills community of Plymouth, the HGTV Green Home is highlighted by a covered wrap-around porch and a third level tower. With approximately 2,100 square feet of living space, the two story, two bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home features construction and design elements that are known to contribute to an energy-efficient, cleaner and healthier living environment. The home recently received a GOLD Certification from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The NAHB National Green Building Standard is the first and only American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved green building standard.
"This is our first HGTV Green Home in a New England location, which gives us the chance to demonstrate the best building products and practices uniquely suited for the charm and challenges of a northeast climate," said Jack Thomasson, HGTV House Planner. "As an added bonus, the fantastic amenities of The Pinehills community offer a lifestyle suited for the outdoor and eco-enthusiast. The house and community make this our best HGTV Green Home yet."
Viewers tuning into HGTV Green Home 2010 on April 18 are in for a treat during this year's special. Jamie Durie, host of HGTV's popular series The Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie, takes viewers on a visual excursion of the house and highlights activities that are within an hour's drive of the home. Along with co-host Sabrina Soto, they try out many activities in the area, including ice skating and cranberry bogging. Soto, a certified green designer who appears on HGTV's Real Estate Intervention, joins HGTV Green Home designer Linda Woodrum and house planner Jack Thomasson as they showcase tips for green design and construction used throughout the home.
"The success of the past two HGTV Green Home Giveaways showed us that many of our viewers are interested in knowing more about a green lifestyle," said Jim Samples, president, HGTV. "This home provides an excellent opportunity to showcase affordable, accessible and eco-friendly approaches to living."
